crow trail

Wildwood_P3_260621_DSCF2225.jpg

I was honored to be selected as one of the artists for Wildwood: Follow the Crows, a citywide public art trail throughout downtown Portland featuring nearly six-foot-tall crow sculptures. Inspired by the natural beauty, wildlife, and stories of the Pacific Northwest, each crow was transformed by a different local artist into a one-of-a-kind work of art.

My Crow: Heart of the Forest

Heart of the Forest was inspired by Forest Park and my experience growing up in the Portland metro area. I always remember seeing crows soaring through the trees, quietly watching over the forest. To me, they always felt like its guardians.

The design celebrates the beauty and interconnectedness of the Pacific Northwest by weaving together native plants and wildlife, including a young black-tailed deer, trillium, lupine, ferns, mushrooms, and berries. Instead of using a traditional background, each element flows naturally within the crow's form, creating the feeling that it carries the heart and spirit of the forest wherever it goes.

Bird Alliance of Oregon has been protecting birds, wildlife, and the places they call home for more than a century. Based in Portland, the organization combines wildlife conservation, education, advocacy, and community engagement to help people build a deeper connection with the natural world. Their work supports native birds and habitats throughout Oregon while creating opportunities for people of all ages to get outside, learn, and experience local wildlife firsthand.

Their mission feels especially connected to the spirit of the Wildwood: Follow the Crows trail, celebrating the wildlife and natural landscapes that make the Pacific Northwest so special.
